Steve Lewis and Alex Brookes have hopped on the wireless wave.
As the owners of Computers Plus of Enderby, a company they established in 2002,
they were inundated with requests from rural customers for high-speed Internet
access.
They have since decided to close Computers Plus and are now focussing their
efforts on Nowcom Wireless, a company they have operated since 2005. After
extensive research and development, Nowcom (North Okanagan Wireless
Communications) now offers a last mile long range wireless Internet service for
rural areas of the North Okanagan.
Since securing rights to set up their main feed repeaters on the Telus/Enderby
Cliff Tower site in April of 2005, they now operate 21 active repeater sites,
including three brand new sites in Mara. As a result, Nowcom is able to service
all of rural Enderby and Area F, Hulcar, Spallumcheen, Armstrong, Deep Creek,
Grandview Bench, Ashton Creek, Trinity Valley, Gardom Lake and Salmon River.
With a sophisticated load balancing system and a self-sustaining bandwidth
controlling system, they have experienced a growing customer base. And while
Nowcom has focused mainly on the North Okanagan, Lewis and Brookes are planning
to increase coverage to include the entire Shuswap area.
Nowcom offers free site evaluations to prospective customers.
